Description of Services
Inspirational Lecture Services
Weekly Sunday Inspirational Lecture Services offer an opportunity to meet with other truth-seekers to commune with God and share spiritual fellowship. These hour-long services include readings from Paramahansa Yogananda’s writings, as well as periods of devotional chanting, silent meditation, and prayer. They are lead by Monastics of the Self-Realization Fellowship Order.
Our Services include participation in the worldwide Self-Realization Fellowship Prayer Circle, during which the healing techniques of Paramahansa Yogananda are practiced.

Group Meditations
Paramahansa Yogananda said, “Group meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member.”
Group meditation offers participants an opportunity to deepen their meditation by coming together with others to practice the concentration and meditation techniques taught by Paramahansa Yogananda in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons.
The meditation begins and ends with a prayer and a brief period of devotional chanting, followed by the deep silence of intense concentration as taught by Paramahansa Yogananda. The silent period (no longer than 40-50 minutes) is used to practice the Kriya Yoga techniques of concentration and meditation, to silently chant and pray to God with devotion in the language of your heart, and to enjoy the deep peace and inner joy of God found in the stillness of meditation.
Meditations held in the Temple are open to all. Participants are seated in chairs and are welcome to enter or exit during the period of chanting at the top of each hour. Group practice of the SRF Energization Exercises are held before the meditation service begins; see below for more information on group practice of the Energization Exercises.
To gain the most benefits from meditation, we encourage you to subscribe to the SRF Lessons to learn the techniques of meditation. For more information about Kriya Yoga and the techniques of meditation that are taught in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons, visit our Learn to Meditate page.
Childcare is not provided during the meditation. If you are new to group meditations, please read our Guidelines for Group Meditations.
We invite you to attend our conducted long meditations every Friday from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. and Sundays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. View the Schedule of Services.

Group Practice of the Energization Exercises
The Energization Exercises are a series of psychophysical exercises developed by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1916 to prepare the body for meditation. The Energization Exercises, which take about fifteen minutes to perform, are one of the most effective means of eliminating stress and nervous tension. Practicing them prior to meditation is a great help in entering a calm, interiorized state of awareness. Self-Realization students practice the Energization Exercises before meditation, as taught in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons, and group practice of the Energization Exercises is held before both the Friday and Sunday evening Group Meditation:
Fridays at 7:00 p.m., on the Temple lawn
Sundays at 7:00 p.m., on the Temple lawn
